USA BOXING GO BACK TO CAMP

A training camp to prepare the three elite women representing Team USA at 2017 Balkan International Tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria next month, began yesterday in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Rashida Ellis  (Lynn, Mass.),   Virginia Fuchs (Kemah, Texas) and  Naomi Graham  (Colorado Springs, Colo.) begin their four week preparation before leaving for the tournament on Oct. 16. Joining the trio during this training camp will be   Diana Estrada  (Hillsboro, Ore.),   Mikaela Mayer  (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Czarina McCoy  (Las Vegas, Nev.) as sparring partners.

The final men’s training camp of the year will take place during the females preparation camp from October 3-18. Members of the High Performance Squad will spend two final weeks at the Olympic Training Center before the 2017 Eastern Elite Qualifier and the 2017 Elite National Championships.

A full camp roster for the women’s camp can be found below. The camp roster for the men’s training camp will be released closer to the start of the camp.

I returned my attention to the other boxers in the gym and moved them along to the next drill. I spent a few minutes with them and then decided to address the situation with the new little boy. He was beating a heavy bag with as much anger as I have ever seen in a person. I watched for a bit, and then approached him to try and offer him some instruction on the proper way to stand, throw a punch, etc. He turned and struck out at me. I caught his gloved hand just before it connected with me.
